"Between Islands’ a new book featuring chapters by Professor Donna Heddle and Dr Andrew Jennings has just been published by Acair. The book is part of a project, also called Between Islands, which has been devised by An Lanntair, the main arts centre on the Isle of Lewis, its main aim being to collectively promote the heritage and culture of the three island groups of Shetland, Orkney and the Western Isles. The project has included lectures, and has created new music and writing, including a short story collection. The new book presents scholarly responses to the project. Professor Heddle explores the rich Norse heritage of the Outer Hebrides with a look at the Norse placenames of Lewis in her chapter ‘Bolstering Bólstaðr’ and Dr Jennings in his chapter investigates the shared folklore heritage of the Western and Northern islands."
